My most relevant experience in relation to this position involves 5 years working as a Water, Hygiene and Habitat Engineer in developing countries, plus 10 years as a private consultant conducting geotechnical investigations and assessments in New Zealand. My work has involved a broad range of activities from hands-on technical design and field assessments, through to public liaison and financial analysis. I have retained a deep interest in international economics, politics, and finance throughout my career. My leisure reading includes international news and weekly reading of The Economist to which I have been a subscriber for over 20 years. I am results-driven and practical. My mix of a rural upbringing and experience in developing countries has endowed me with a appreciation of cultural sensitivities and the need to fully understand each setting in which intervention may be planned. I believe I have strong analytical and report writing skills with an ability to quickly define core issues in any given developmental project. Much of my work has required concise scientific/engineering writing with which I am fully comfortable. I am also a qualified diesel mechanic and retain an interest in mechanical engineering.
