A broadly experienced geologist with over 17 years' consulting experience working in mineral exploration, hydrogeology, geotechnical engineering, environmental science and contaminated land. An experienced field manager and project planner, with an emphasis on communication, meticulous data and record management and effective forward planning.Experienced manager in exploration, geotechnical and hydrogeological projects. The majority of Michael's field experience has been in mineral exploration, geotechnical and environmental/hydrogeological studies in Australia and New Zealand. Michael is familiar with a number of different drilling systems including diamond coring, reverse circulation and various direct circulation methods. He has also been involved in the recovery and logging of ice-cores in Antarctica.Michael has over 10 years' experience in the planning and execution of drilling, seismic and other types of data acquisition projects. This covers all facets of project management including bid preparation, client liaison, planning and work-scope preparation, logistics, contract management and budgeting/finance. He has sound staff and contractor management skills and enjoys working with drilling and other sub-contractors both in the planning and active stages of projects.Michael has excellent technical report writing skills, with a focus on reports for private sector and government clients. Management and execution of groundwater and environmental projects, primarily for major oil company and government clients.  Considerable experience supervising drilling operations and core logging. Mainly for hydrogeological and geotechnical purposes in soft sediments, basalts and gravels using a variety of drilling techniques including diamond coring, air hammer and mud rotary. Projects primarily consisted of investigations at decommissioned and active petroleum storage facilities and industrial sites. Geotechnical studies for gas pipeline construction and realignment. Responsibilities included the scientific, logistical, financial and contract management of projects from conception to completion.  Specific duties included field supervision of drilling and earthmoving operations, client liaison, the development of tenders, scopes of work and cost estimates, data evaluation and analysis, report writing and review. Contract management with both clients and suppliers/contractors. Delivery of high quality and scientifically robust work was required, usually within short timeframes and tight budgets. A flexible and adaptable approach to work and time management were essential. Used Microsoft Office, including Excel and Access on a daily basis and therefore proficient in their use. Responsible for ensuring the efficient and practical implementation of stringent health, safety and environmental protocol in all projects under my control.
