I managed a Bioinformatics compute cluster for three Bioinformatics groups. It involved the installation and configuration of LDAP, for centralised management of user accounts, SystemImager, for easy backup and installation of client node images and Torque, a batch execution system. Day to day management of the cluster involved the installation, configuration and management of many Bioinformatics software applications and frameworks, along with administration and management of MySQL instances for users of the cluster.

I was involved in developing Proline: The Proteomics Pipeline. Proline is a workflow and task execution system with a collection of user interfaces and software tools that provide different methods to view and manipulate proteomics data.I worked on the workflow and task execution system. Although the system was developed to analyse proteomics data, it is customisable through XML based workflow and task descriptions, making it suitable for any pipeline based analyses. The system comprised an engine, software to control the execution and status of workflows, a PCD (Process Control Daemon), a worker to execute tasks and a DTSM (Data Transfer and Storage Manager), to manage file transfers and storage.I also developed Overwinter, a database storage and interaction utility written in Python. Overwinter is a library to allow the mapping of Python objects to database tables (and vice versa) using XML. The library was further extended to allow the mapping of data stored in XML to database tables, using a customised implementation of the XPath language.

I worked for BioResearch Ireland, part of Enterprise Ireland, to develop an application in Java to track and manage their research projects, and to generate custom reports.
