My Background: PhD in chemistry and later trained in molecular biology and neuroscience. Spent academic career working on the molecular and cell biology of learning, memory and addiction. Along the way I became frustrated with the tools available to study signaling pathways and left Harvard and MGH to set up a company developing and selling new tools to study signaling pathways that underlie disease. – Cell Signaling Technology (CST) – Over the last 20 years we built CST into the number 1 quality provider of research tools in our space.As a scientist, one of my passions has been to build technologies to understand biology and disease. To do this we created a discovery technology, based upon antibody purification and mass spectrometry, PTMScan, that allows simultaneous analysis of thousands of signaling nodes – providing a new and deep view of pathways never seen before. This led to the discovery of thousands of new sites and valuable targets in lung cancer including Alk, Ros. It also led to the discovery of hundreds of thousands of new PTMs that participate in vast signaling networks, and the creation of “Phosphosite” the worlds leading database of protein modifications. Another passion was to create the best antibody technology to maintain our competitive business position. Over the last 15 years we created innovative new ways to discover and make antibodies using Mass Spec and DNA sequencing. In forming Bluefin Biomedicine we combined the discovery and antibody technologies developed at CST to produce a company that discovers cancer targets and makes antibody based drugs. Bluefin was spun out of CST in 2016.
