Michael has over 15 years’ NHS experience, having worked in numerous roles across the Lancashire and South Cumbria health and social care system before joining NHS England as a Mental Health Improvement Senior Manager in 2022.Joining the NHS in 2008, after graduating from the University of Liverpool with a BA degree in Political Science. Michael initially worked as an administrator before becoming a specialist in Quality and Performance, working within both Provider and Commissioning organisations. In 2017 Michael joined the nascent ICS Adult Mental Health Team as a Programme Lead, where he led on a varied portfolio of work; including: the establishment of an Integrated Discharge Team; a commissioning review of mental health rehabilitation; improving inpatient flow and discharge; reducing restrictive practice; the delivery of IAPT NHS Long Term Plan deliverables; and Adult ADHD.Michael has an MSP Practitioner Certificate in Programme Management, as well being a PRINCE2 qualified Practitioner, an accredited Contract Manager and an Advancing Quality Alliance trained Quality Improvement Practitioner. Michael has also trained with the NHS Leadership Academy.In his spare time Michael plays guitar in the alternative/indie rock band Ring Ring Rouge (https://g.co/kgs/K4AcX7) and has written for several publications such as the Liverpool Student, Independent Voices, Clarets Mad and No Nay Never. Michael also speaks Portuguese to CEFR Level B2.
