- Collaborated in basic research program combining modeling and experiments to understand fire-suppression mechanisms of low-expansion aqueous foams used to extinguish flammable liquid pool fires. Developed models to describe aqueous foam drainage for low-expansion foams, surface cooling of burning liquid pools by foam application, and fuel vapor transport through aqueous foams. Contributed key ideas towards development of experiments for model validation in addition to data analysis.- Reviewed and evaluated available literature on modeling and experiments relevant to ignition of oil/natural gas jets as a blowout response for federal regulatory agency.- Performed density functional theory calculations to predict thermochemical and spectral properties of novel energetic compounds in collaboration with experimentalists performing synthesis of compounds and corresponding property measurements.- Developed model to describe heat transfer from compartment fires to insulated aluminum flight deck grillage for naval vessels in agreement with large-scale experiments.- Recent projects: --- Prediction of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of organo-metallic crystals using density functional theory codes (collaboration with synthetic chemists, NMR experimentalists, and theorists);--- Modeling of analyte vapor transport in canine training device developed at NRL for explosives detection (collaboration with analytical chemists and theorists).

Advisor: Ramagopal Ananth- Developed models to describe aqueous foam drainage for high-expansion foams during and after foam application. Assisted in experiments for model validation.- Applied non-Newtonian foam model to describe flow of high-expansion foam through obstructed spaces. Assisted in experiments for model validation.

Advisor: Ivan OleynikApplied quantum-mechanical computational methods to study the response of energetic materials subject to hydrostatic and uniaxial compression. The dissertation was awarded the Outstanding Dissertation Award by the University of South Florida Graduate School in 2010.
