CurrentMichael Copeland is now serving his fourth term as Mayor of the City of Olathe. He was first elected Mayor in April, 2001. Prior to that, he served as an at-large Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem, positions he had held since April, 1995. He was first elected to the Olathe City Council in 1993 to represent Ward 4.The City's 2016 approved budget is $325,759,113 supporting services from ten departments and 889 employees.Olathe, with a population of 135,000, is the second largest among the 21 communities in prosperous Johnson County, and the fourth largest city in the state. It is located 20 miles southwest of downtown Kansas City, with all of the cultural advantages of a major metropolitan area.
