Procurement Operations Manager
CurrentThere were many ideas I had at my prior employer that I believed would help to increase sales and bottom line profits. But as is so often the case they did not want to proceed with them so it became frustrating and disappointing to me. I believed the market was there and up for grabs. So we parted ways and I formed Sew Many Parts, Inc. Not too long into it I took on a business partner and we have built our business up one brick at a time. It is more complex, but in a nut shell we are like an auto parts store for the industrial embroidery and sewing industry. The machines used to sew are essentially CNC machinery. They have many consumable moving parts as well as computer boards and multiple motors. So just like automobiles, they eventually break down and need repaired or serviced. That is when we get the call. We offer genuine OEM parts and also the highest quality generic parts that are available. There are also many other items customers use on a daily or weekly basis such as needles, thread, bobbins, scissors, snips, backing (aka stabilizer), spray glue, lubricants, hoops and hooping assemblies to name a few. So, we are very strong in supplying those items too and at very competitive prices. We treat customers the way we would like to be treated and it has served us well.As for my duties here well that would be everything you can imagine. I have continued to use the purchasing, inventory management, and operations management skills from prior education, work, and experience. But in addition to this I have become a fairly good salesman. This is probably because I have learned so much about the parts and supplies and this is of great benefit to me when selling.I also take on most of the role of new product development. This has been most important in the development of the generic parts line but also carries over to other items. I do quite a bit of accounting, finance, logistics management and coordination and other things required.
Procurement & Materials Manager
MIM was the name of this wholly owned subsidiary of brother, Japan. The position was a shift for me from the materials requirements planning(MRP) for manufacturing over to distribution requirements planning(DRP) for warehousing and distribution. It was still strongly tied to the Automotive industry however. MIM's claim to fame was that they created the first high speed, automated air bag sewing machine. They were involved with all different kinds of automation for industrial sewing processes and engineering. Other applications were automotive seating and trim, mattresses, clothing and apparel, as well as heavy duty tents to name a few.I was hired along with 10 or 15 others when they closed the Georgia division and decided to merge it with the Ohio division. Nobody wanted to relocate to Ohio so some jobs opened up. At that time they decided to make a push into the industrial embroidery market. Together as a team we built and grew this new division into the rising star of the company. It was quite the ride both exciting and stressful, but we had great success. After 5 years though the other sectors of the company slowly but surely dragged down the company as a whole until a massive lay off of half of the company transpired. Seeing the handwriting on the I had to make some tough decisions. Eventually I left to do who knew what. But after some thought and consideration I decided I was good at what I had done for the past 6 years and decided to start my own company doing many things that I was never permitted to do before. The rest of this story can be found in my bio for Sew Many Parts, Inc. :)
Procurement & Material Control Manager
Here I was responsible for the purchasing and materials planning of carbide preforms, synthetic diamonds, diamond grinding wheels, wire E.D.M. supplies, Studer CNC grinder and other CNC machine parts and supplies, drill bits, and taps to name a few. These were used to manufacture carbide and diamond tipped reamers and face mills primarily used in machining centers for the machining of non ferrous metals by companies such as Honda, Briggs & Stratton, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler and others.Other items accomplished while here were that to become ISO 9000 certified, I was responsible for sourcing and purchasing all measuring equipment required to convert the entire machine shop/ factory from the English based measuring system to the metric system. Also I coordinated the setting up of an internally managed, locked down tool crib to minimize down time, increase efficiency, and maximize throughput.
Purchasing & Material Control Coordinator
Here I was responsible for the Purchasing & material planning of HRPO and Stainless steel plate, cold rolled goods, industrial paints & chemicals, painting supplies, sanding & buffing materials, and welding supplies used to fabricate and manufacture architectural and detention windows.
