I am a Professor of Surgery and the Section Chief for Trauma Acute Care Surgery in the GITES Division at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the Trauma Medical Director for the Anschutz Medical Campus. I specialize in acute care surgery, including trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery. My research focuses on guided resuscitation of patients in hemorrhagic shock, acute traumatic coagulopathy, venous thromboembolism prevention, and the development of scoring systems for emergency general surgery. Board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, I earned my medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and performed my residency in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco-East Bay. I received fellowship training in Trauma Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at University of California San Francisco. I earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Science at UT Southwestern. Prior to becoming Section Chief at University of Colorado, I spent 9 years at Parkland Memorial Hospital as a UT Southwestern faculty where I served in several key leadership roles including ICU Director, Fellowship Director, Trauma Medical Director, and Medical Director of Disaster Management.
