• Oversee Operations for the Energy division of HCE, including: • the Downtown heating and cooling District Energy (DE) System; • the sustainable campus energy system at McMaster Innovation Park; • renewable solar assets: 2 MW rooftop solar under FIT3 contracts with the IESO; 1.7 MW rooftop solar under FIT4 contracts with the IESO; • the Pier 10 cogeneration and steam system at the Hamilton Portlands under a CHPSOP2 contract with the IESO;• Part of the team driving towards decarbonation of HCE’s district energy networks through the use of green technology and energy harvesting;• Accountable for a budget of over $5 million;• Involved in developing Renewable Energy Solutions for heating, cooling and electrical services including support for McMaster University’s ICE Harvest initiative. • Responsible for maintaining the Health and Safety of the division.

• Managed the Engineering Team and provided technical support to the Operations Team;• Project Manager for several projects during major build-out initiative, including: • Cogeneration electrical power and steam plant under a CHPSOP2 contract with IESO; • Thermal Heating and Cooling Services through District Energy connections for several new properties and retrofits including Alectra Utilities, Hamilton Police Service, and several private developments.

• Contributed to the achievement of commercial production at Ambatovy — the largest finished nickel and finished cobalt operation from lateritic ore in the world, with an annual design capacity of 60,000 tonnes of nickel and 5,600 tonnes of cobalt, and an estimated mine life of 29 years;• Provide leadership to technical resources assigned directly to Utilities Plant Areas (Water Treatment, Air Separation, Hydrogen, Hydrogen Sulphide, Sulphuric Acid, Lime & Limestone, Power Plant);• Coordinate the supply of technical or engineering resources from either central Technical Services or outside vendors;• Identify, initiate, and implement process improvements that will contribute to the safe operation, cost effectiveness, stability, process robustness and reliability of Utilities Operations.• Manage, coach and mentor a team of 12 International and Malagasy National engineers and admin staff. Participate in hiring, professional development and reviewing work procedures.• Ensure that all company and department safety and environmental policies are adhered to and incorporated into any process changes.• Provide back-up coverage for Utilities Manager in his absence.

• Commissioning and start-up team member for the 18000Nm³/h Hydrogen Plant.• Day-to-day troubleshooting, root cause analyses and resolutions to equipment and control issues.• Project Manager for major Hydrogen Plant start-up and debottlenecking initiatives including: a) N2 compressor installation to allow initial Hydrogen Plant start-up- and commissioning; b) Installation of three Naphtha vapourizers, two coalescers and H2 injection to mitigate severe coking and significantly reduce unscheduled downtime frequency every 5 to 8 weeks.• Managed the Utilities Management of Change (MOC) system ensuring compliance maintained, including proper risk assessments.• Coordinated, monitored and drove project and maintenance activities.• Daily analysis of Utilities operations and key process indicators (KPIs) to ensure production targets were achieved

• Managed and acted as Process lead for MOCs for the Ammonia Leach Plant in Sherritt’s Corefco Refinery Operation producing 32,000 tonnes of nickel and 3,200 tonnes of cobalt annually.• Process lead in design, implementation and testing of refinery process control logic;• Led Alarm Management initiative targeting the ANSI/ISA-18.2-2009 standard, Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries;• Leach Plant client contact for a major Expansion Project to significantly increase production capacity;• Developed operating procedures for modified circuits and trained Operations personnel;• Managed environmental controls required for the Operating Approval for Alberta Environment: a) Managed the maintenance, operation and improvements of seepage and groundwater well systems around areas including old tailings ponds in order to minimize liability; b) Ensured operability of continuous emissions monitors; c) Ensured operability of Larox pressure filter for dry-stacking of tailings.• Managed team of production engineers in budgeting and monthly analyses of consumption indices required for plant reagents, utilities and bulk consumables.• Composed, implemented and audited processes to ensure successful ISO 9001:2008 certification, resulting in expansion of sales into the European Markets, while maintaining a high quality product.

Participated in feasibility study teams for hydrometallurgical processes, responsible for Metsim modeling, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing, and technical report writing.Studies included a matte treatment facility for Anglo Platinum’s Rustenburg base metals refinery, a sulphide concentrate upgrader for Barrick Gold’s Kabanga Nickel deposit, and treatment options for hydrometallurgical residues from Inco’s Voisey’s Bay Nickel Project.

Participated in feasibility study teams designing hydrometallurgical extraction processes for Nickel laterite projects in Australia, West Africa and Cuba.On-site assessment of utilities for the Pirdop Copper Smelter Modernization Project, Bulgaria.
