I am employed at a University of Wisconsin - Madison neurology lab, researching post traumatic epilepsy (PTE). Our lab studies the effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI) on the development of post traumatic epilepsy in genetic slow and fast kindling rat models, as well as the effects of 2-deoxy-D-Glucose (anti-conversant) on modifying neural circuits. My specific work includes studying the molecular differences which underlie different responses such as PTE or PTSD after the administration of a TBI. I am responsible for mRNA extraction, purification mRNA, and then analysis in preparation for genomic sequencing. I am currently training to perform surgical procedures on the rat models by a minimally invasive brain surgery, followed by a TBI and implantation of an electrode for iEEG monitoring. Dr. Kotloski (supervisor) and I are currently collaborating on a paper dealing with contemporary research linking the related mechanisms of Alzheimer’s and Epilepsy.
