Provided advice and guidelines to all six Australian junior teams participating at the 2018 Youth World Cup at Putrajya Malaysia. This role included Sweat-Sodium & Fatigue Pre Tournamnet Survey, Personalised Hydration plan with Nutrient Timing Schedule , plus pre and per cooling techniques. Recovery protocols provided included roller massage, pool recovery, contrast showers and earthing. To help the young Aussie I designed and developed a customised recovery pak which included a cooling towel. massage therapy ball and graduated compressions socks. The Australians were successful in winning all divisions 18s boys ,18s girsl , 18 mixed, 20 mens 20 womens and 20 mixed and regained the World Cup lost to NZ in 2005. The post tournament survey revealed a satisfactory buy in and uptake by most players as guage by 91% response rate. However, it was concerning that 51% of players felt unacclimed to the extreme conditions and 46% of players did not get adeqaute quality sleep..so much more work is needed to prepare for the World Cup in April 2019. I also provided advice & guidelines to the South Africa 18s years girls team who claimed Bronze.

The Australian Mens 19's touch football team will play a three test series in Auckland 2017. The 14 players are domicile across several states. A 6 week program including pre and post testing is used to avoid detraining or reversibility. A secondary aim is to ensure accountability over the christmas break. The program will focus on increasing repeated sprint ability, rest-recovery ratio plus some power & speed gains. A closed facebook group allows players and coaches to interact, monitor performances, and upload video evidence of training. This program builds upon the GPS analytical metrics completed over the winter, which allowed the establishment of baselines in touch football. The GPS indicates that improving high speed running for longer is paramount at the elite level. UPDATE:22/1/17 The Australian mens 19's successfully defended their Trans Tasman title winning two tests to one. A strong NZ team won the first test 9 to 7. With 10 new players out of 14, the young Australians won the next two tests 9 to 5 and 9 to 7. Clearly evident was speed of play ,management of fatigue and recovery over the three days.

Developed a new Protocol involving functional Warm-up, Hydration and Recovery Plan for Touch Football endurance events. These events last for 3 days and teams will play 3-4 games per day, culminating in a final series. The new Protocol gained immediate success with Parramatta Girls 18's team, who won the blue ribbon event , the NSW Junior State Cup at Port Macquarie ( 17-19 Feb). Compared to their 2016 season, this 4th ranked team reported a significant reduction in injuries, enhanced energy levels through the three days and reduced muscle soreness. The NSW JSC attracts 320 + teams totalling 4600 players with 1237 games played across 5 age categories. 17,000 spectators witness the event annually. Players in the 18's transition into the National 19's & Opens category from here . The new Protocol will be implemented at the March Sydney Scorpions Elite Camp ( Under 14 & 16) at Narrabeen Sports Academy and at the NSW Junior Regional Championships (JRC) in Ballina in April. Soft Tissue injuries to the knee and lower leg remains disproportionally high in Touch Football compared to other codes so the new Protocol will form part of the solutionUPDATE: Additional data was supplied via GPS of the warmup and its positive effect within the first 5 -10 minutes of games at the NSW JRC. Players data showed higher & faster metres were attained after the functional WU vs Control Group (Under 16 Boys) that did not implement the functional WU. Typically in the first 5 minutes players using WU ran plus 80-120 metres plus vs under 80 metres for the Control group.

Founded in 1997,Sydney Scorpions are a touch football region that competes in peak domestic tournaments run by Touch Football Australia. The region includes but not limited to Parramatta, Hornsby, Carlingford, Hills, Northern Suburbs, Ryde Eastwood, Northern Beaches and Manly .My role is to provide advice, direction and guidance in Prehab & Injury Prevention, Sports Nutrition, Hydration, Gender & Age Differences ,Exercise Physiology and Elite Training including Recovery. The demographic stretches from pre elite - 14 years to seniors competing in the over 50's National Touch League.Since 1996 touch football has reduced from 7 to 6 players and with concurrent changes in speed, taxing of metabolic energy pathways plus recovery times. Of concern is the increased prevalence of ACL injury especially of the non contact variety. From 1984 to 1994 my varied roles have beenFounding President: Southern Districts Touch Association, Perth.V.President: NTTA, DarwinCoaching: mixed open, regional:boys under 20's and mens 30's . Prevention Of Hamstring Tears (And Acl Ruptures) In Touch Football
Since 2002 as touch football changed from 7 a side to a 6 a side game with unlimited substitutions the increased speed of the game has evolved two styles of play. Namely a power based game and a lateral or running game. In both styles a key factor is high speed running (HSR). This presents unique challenges in injury management. Hamstring tears will occur during HSR . Additionally neuromuscular fatigue particularly of biceps femoris can contribute to a higher risk of strains. There is also an ongoing concern of the prevalence of non contact ACL ruptures in touch football.Data collected by Flinders University and AIHW National Injury Surveillance Unit (2004-05) reported that of all touch football injuries requiring hospitalisation 14.0% were ACL ruptures. This is contrasted with AFL at 4.6%,Rugby at 4.2% and Soccer at 9.4% for the same time period. Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors combine to increase the risk of ACL tearing. Working with Dr Peter Micalos at CSU I aim to address both concerns, hamstring strains and ACL ruptures. This will include benchmarking HSR, (using GPS ) at the pre elite and elite levels in touch football, plus identifying & eliminating exercise that fatigue the hamstring during warm ups and re warm ups. This research will form a basis for future investigations.Update: Recent GPS data has reported elite male middle players during a game will cover 160- 175 metres/minute. This is contrasted with AFL and Soccer at 125-145 m/min . Hence a key performance indicator Max Aerobic Speed is also worth investigating.

Phase 1: Vawdon Cup grand final preparation including GPS testing of players during the final, and formulating a Timing of Nutrition Plan . Manly Womens successfully defended their title winning 7-3 against Easts Roosters. This result is a significant gain upon last years result in which the game went into extra time. Phase 2 is to prepare for the NSW State Cup in December. A customised Monitoring Training system using sessional RPEs, Health & Wellness and tracking injuries will be implemented. Analysis of training sessions will include drone technology and GPS tracking. A hydration plan will be used and a new functional warm up for the State cup has been developed. As the State Cup is an endurance based tournament played in plus 30 degrees heat, a new per cooling technique will be tested. This is under the auspices of Charles Sturt University and is the first time that perceptual responses to per cooling will be investigated in a team based sport. UPDATE: Sunday 3rd Dec: State Championship Final: Manly 4 def Easts 1. Players reported positive effects of per cooing during semi final and final.
