Academic experience encompasses doctoral studies with Prof. Tom Livinghouse, post-doctoral studies with Nobel laureate Ei-ichi Negishi, and professorial work at the University of North Dakota before entering industry. Industrial experience includes nine years leading the metallocene group’s innovation and commercialization efforts at CPC, and 11 years at W.R. Grace as the resident expert for evaluating, trouble-shooting and commercializing tolling opportunities of Grace’s global customers. Have extensive knowledge of metallocene and Phillips catalyst (Cr-SiO2)-structure vs. reactor operability vs. polymer processing & property relationships. Directly responsible for developing CPC’s commercial metallocenes and resins, and during tenure with Grace have traveled to many plants and R&D facilities around the world. Discovered and developed MAO substitutes at both companies. Commercialized at CPC in the early 2000s. Aside from being a “hands-on” m-LLDPE and bimodal film & pipe expert, especially from loop slurries, during time at Grace became intimately aware of gas and solution phase process trouble shooting. Expert at solving catalyst and oligomer/polymer performance issues with the major HDPE to elastomer/plastomer, and PAO producers.
