I have had two different careers. The first was working as a supermarket employee. From 1979 -1988, I worked for Pathmark supermarkets and served at different times as night crew clerk, night crew manager, frozen food manager, and then dairy manager. In 1988 I changed companies for better employment opportunities. Within a year, I was selected to be dairy manager of their newest store, an honor reserved for the best department managers I left King Kullen in June of 1990 to become a court officer. On June 25, 1990 I was in the court officer academy. I graduated with the rank of court officer. I started in Manhattan Family Court and within four months I was transferred to Queens Family Court. In 1993, as a result of a test, I became a senior court officer. A rank, at that time that enabled you to be assigned to courts of higher jurisdiction - supreme courts, where the cases are all felonies ( those punishable by a year or more in jail ) such as robbery, arson, rape, and murder. In August of 1993, I started out my career working briefly in the New York County Clerk's Office. I provided security, finger printed, and provided public assistance. In December of 1993, I was transferred to Brooklyn Supreme Court. For six years I worked in the court room, transported prisoners, handled jurors, and maintained order among other functions. My last three years in Brooklyn I was on the security detail. I would check people coming into the building, provide security when verdicts were taken in the court rooms, and assisted the public in answering questions or seeing to their personal needs such as attending to an injury. October 24,2002 until my retirement on June 6, 2019 , I was a senior court officer sergeant. The sergeant is responsible for designating and supervising assignments to the officers in the court room, overall security, timely calling of cases, acting as a go between the judge and the other agencies. It was rewarding and challenging.
