I completed my general surgery residency at Bassett medical center focusing on rural general surgery.

Worked primarily with individuals with neurological disorders and gait instabilities. Worked with individuals with Parkinson’s disease, neuropathies, stroke damage, brain tumors, polio, amputees, dementia, and vestibular disorders. Lead individuals through exercises, and helped the physical therapists when asked to assist with patients. Evolved from a volunteer position to a paid staff position.

I was the Lab assistant for anatomy I and II as well as a May term. I assisted professor Clark in the anatomy and physiology lab with set up, grading, proctoring tests, helping students, and teaching some lab classes. I led the class through an eye and brain dissection. I also led a blood lab, determining the students’ blood types and taught them how to make a blood smear to observe their own blood under a light microscope

Ethiopia

I spent about five weeks volunteering in Hospitals and outposts in Ethiopia. Our summer missions group was put together at Gordon College and worked with Kissito International. Kissito invited us to learn and to help in any way possible. Kissito hosts visiting doctors, medical students, and college students. We were taught about rural medicine in the villages and worked with malnourished children. We also spent time educating the community about health and how to prevent sickness and promote good health.
