Purdue Pharma L.P., a privately held pharmaceutical company founded by physicians, finds, develops, and brings to market new medicines and related products that improve health outcomes. I report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and am responsible for all aspects of audits, compliance, tax accounting, and planning for the Company. Purdue Pharma L.P. provides a unique overlay of all of the responsibilities outlined below under UST, Inc. to a partnership/trust/high-wealth individual environment. Since 2013, I have also taken responsibility for the following areas within Finance: Accounts Payable, Executive and Sales Fleet, General & Administrative Accounting and Payroll.

UST, Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiaries, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of premium smokeless tobacco products and wines. I reported directly to the Vice President of Tax and Treasurer and was responsible for formulating, directing and implementing:• Research & planning activities related to federal, state and international income and other taxes.• All aspects of tax compliance, including federal, international, state and local income tax returns and informational filings, federal and state excise tax returns, state and local sales/use tax returns and property (including unclaimed property) tax returns.• All audits, including 3 full cycles of IRS exams of the Federal consolidated returns, foreign income and withholding tax audits, hundreds of state income and transaction tax audits, appeals, litigation and voluntary disclosure negotiations.• All aspects of tax accounting, including FAS 109 and FIN 48 compliance.• Establishment of a tax compliance program consistent with Sections 201 and 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and IRS tax shelter/reportable transaction rules.• Tax planning and financial reporting of executive compensation which includes calculations of parachute payments pursuant to I.R.C. §§ 280G and 4999, actuarial valuations of qualified and nonqualified pension benefits, and all aspects of executive fringe benefits.

Proposed, planned, implemented and supervised state and local consultation projects within various industries as follows:• Income and Franchise Taxes – minimized state and local taxes via business restructuring, provided advice regarding mergers and acquisitions, performed due diligence examinations and state nexus studies, obtained private letter rulings and appealed state audit examination results. • Transaction-based Taxes (e.g., Sales and Use, Gross Receipts, Excise, Property Transfer Taxes, etc.) – supervised state and local research project for major telecommunications service provider, provided advice regarding mergers and acquisitions, performed due diligence examinations and state nexus studies, prepared multi-state reference manuals, implemented asset leasing companies, obtained private letter rulings and appealed state audit examination results.• Supervised the maintenance of an on-line database used by the firm and its clients to assist them in minimizing their state sales/use and income/franchise taxes.
