• Contributed to the development and manufacture of carbohydrate based biologics including a 250 kg scale manufacturing process, fermentation, high-pressure reactors, centrifugation, micro/ultra filtration, SEC, HIC, and spray drying.• Qualified chemistry assays including LC/MS, SEC/MALS, and many colorimetric detection methods.• Directed a chemistry lab containing HPLC, LC/MS, SEC/MALS, GC/MS, Prep/SEC, and HPAEC for testing, purifying, and characterizing various classes of molecules.• Served as the chemistry safety officer including hazardous waste disposal.

The group that I was part of in the Medical Division at 3M was responsible for the development of platforms capable of molecular diagnostics based detection of MRSA and other pathogenic microorganisms. My specific role involved the development of technologies used to stabilize sensitive enzymes and reagents in carbohydrate based polymer films to be used in consumables for routine PCR detection systems. I also designed and conducted stability studies on these reagents with PCR as the measure of activity.Issued Patents:US 8835157 B2 Filed April 2008. 3M Pharmaceuticals was focused on the modulation of the immune system by small molecule agonists and antagonists of the Toll Like Receptor (TLR) Pathway. My responsibilities included identifying novel small molecules that would act on the TLR pathway. This included designing synthetic routes and synthesizing these compounds for biological testing. Additional responsibilities included identifying and proposing novel targets and approaches for new discovery programs.
