About Michael Darko

To date, a significant amount of my professional experience has been voluntary within the asylum & immigration sector due to immigration policies that restricted me. I have valuable transferable experience in the asylum and immigration sector. I have committed nearly eight years to participation, engagement, campaigning, facilitating and training lived experience to become stakeholders. I have gained experience engaging, empathising and working within the migrant sector. I have a unique understanding through the personal experience of the injustice of immigration detention and the challenging work done within the migrant sector challenging these issues. I also understand organisational behaviour, which gives me a broader perspective on how to bring about change. I use the combination of my lived experience with the organisation and structural skills I gained so far to create change within the asylum & immigration sector. My vision is to promote the valuable skills and expertise of lived experience, to build trust and holistic partnerships between individuals with lived experience and organisations to create impactful changes. By uplifting lived experience voices into policy practise at local and national levels.
