Perform structural dynamics research for the Federal Highway Administration's Long-Term Bridge Performance (LTBP) program. Dynamic testing and modal analysis of highway bridges under ambient and forced (via mass shaker) excitation. Data collection via multiple data acquisition systems. Data processing using FFT algorithms. Extraction of modal properties (modal frequencies, modal damping ratios, and mode shapes).

Mesa Consulting Group is an architectural firm with in-house structural engineers. I worked alongside 2 licensed engineers. It was a great to have the architects in the same office and be able to work together on projects. I started that job working on the structural analysis of underground concrete septic tanks. I used SAP to create a structural model and run the analyses. I also assisted in engineering a new building for Ruby's Inn at Bryce Canyon as well as a new building for the Hurricane Water District.

I worked alongside a professional engineer by the name of Scott Christensen for about 2 years. Most of our projects were wood-framed residential homes which would take only a few days to engineer. This was a benifit to me because I acted as the project engineer for each project I worked on. On many occassions I was the client's first point of contact so I would take their contact information, their plans and I would come up with an estimated cost for the project. I enjoyed collaborating with other professionals during each project (ie. truss manufacturer, architect, geotechnical engineer, etc.). It was also a great benefit to have all my work back-checked by a professional engineer and recieve advice from him. The largest project I managed was the Comfort Inn in Fernley, NV. This structure was wood-framed, 4-stories high and took a lot of time to engineer. For the seismic design we added in a cantilevered-column system at the main level entrance to the building due to the lack of shear walls in that portion of the building.
