As a Hearing Support Assistant (HSA), I support the Records and Mail unit. I am responsible to data entry, file organization and delivery, sorting of incoming correspondence, delivery of correspondence to the appropriate team, and general office duties.

Working as an IT Business Analyst Intern, I provided support to other IT Business Analysts and Business Consultants. I mostly worked on a report replacement project, converting a desktop report managing program to a web-based program. Responsibilities included ensuring web-based reports matched the specifications of the clients, support to full-time business analysts/consultants, basic data mining, analysis, and organization.

Helsinki, Finland

Through the University of Toronto and the Hart House Finnish Exchange, I was selected as one of eight students to spend the summer in Finland for work and to experience a new culture. I worked with a professional landscaping company, where I was responsible for basic landscaping jobs, as well as small construction and repair jobs.

As a student inspector, I was assigned to the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) surveillance program. Working with another inspector, a manager in the Barrie regional office, a supervisor in Ottawa, and other inspectors across the province, I set, examined, and collected traps to follow the spread of the invasive pest EAB. These traps were set according to a grid map supplied by other inspectors, as well as knowledge of the the local area in and around Barrie, Simcoe County, and Muskoka. I responded to phone and email inquiries from the general public about EAB, as well as distribution literature to educate the public about EAB and it's impact on the environment and economy, including the Canadian Government's plan of action for combating the pest. I also enforced regulation concerning the transport of firewood and other regulated materials to ensure no spread of the pest would happen accidentally. Show less

Big Chute On

As an assistant lock operator, I was required to help boaters traveling the Trent-Severn Waterway (TSW) safely enter and exit the carriage located at the Big Chute. I would collect payments from these boaters as well as boaters staying overnight in the local campground. I would answer questions from visitors to the Big Chute about its history, how it works, and any other inquiries they may have concerning the TSW. As part of the fulfillment team, I would arrive before the store opened to ensure shelves were properly set up and stocked. I would assist with the set up of promotional displays, deliveries, and customers loading their purchases into their vehicles. During operating hours, I would help customers find product, answer questions, and assist any other employees with tasks they may have.
