Dr. Michael D. Waters has over 35 years of experience as a biochemist, genetic toxicologist, toxicogenomics and information scientist, with extensive experience in project management. He has over 20 years of experience in database development and has completed three (3) databases of international significance (for each, he conceived the overall project and directed the development of the database): 1) the Environmental Protection Agency’s Gene-Tox Program and Database now hosted by the National Library of Medicine; 2) the EPA-IARC Genetic Activity Profile Database used by the International Agency for Research on Cancer in the evaluation of short-tern tests for genetic and related effects; and 3) the Chemical Effects in Biological Systems (CEBS) toxicogenomics knowledgebase at the NIH, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (http://cebs.niehs.nih.gov). He also has 20 years of laboratory and management experience with studies with cellular, molecular approaches including design and conduct of genotoxicity assays and chemoprevention studies in in vitro models; utilization of mechanistic approaches to understand the disease process; genomics, clinical and toxicologic pathology, and risk-based expertise. He is an Emeritus Adjunct Professor of Toxicology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Duke University. He is Editor Emeritus of Mutation Research - Reviews in Mutation Research and Series Editor, Issues in Toxicology, Royal Society of Chemistry.
