CurrentMichael Demeter is a certified Martial Arts Instructor with near 3 decades of training and teaching experience. As a Martial Arts Instructor, Michael has experience with age groups ranging from 3 years old to retirees. Michael currently holds a Third Degree Black Belt in Isshin-Ryu Karate. As an instructor, Michael works with many students and other instructors, placing a strong emphasis on personal integrity and mutual respect for one another. As a teacher, Michael believes that his mission is to help those with Parkinson’s disease live happy and active lives.PD Fitness 4 Life is a fitness system based on martial arts created by Michael Demeter, and is specifically designed to help those with Parkinson’s learn the ancient ways of martial arts and also regain and maintain mobility, strength and self-esteem.Michael began his martial arts studies in 1984. In 1986 Michael enlisted and became a member of the United States Marine Corps. Michael spent 7 years serving his country in both the United States and overseas. He graduated top of his class at the Non Commissioned Officers Academy in Okinawa and was meritoriously promoted four times. Michael has had the opportunity to train with some of the most esteemed instructors in the United States and has studied many different styles of martial arts.In 2012 Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and quickly realized that his mobility, balance and dexterity were being affected. Michael immediately started working on different ways to implement alternative techniques and skill sets that have allowed Michael to continue his training. PD Fitness 4 Life was then born. After three years of development and training, Michael was not only seeing an increase in mobility, balance, and dexterity, but was also starting to gain back the ability to perform the techniques and use of various weapons, as he did prior to being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
