I’ve seen the effects of poor financial planning. I’ve seen unbearable debt, small retirement savings, loss of income due to disability, and the premature death of a parent/spouse. (That last one, I’ve experienced personally.) I’ve also seen the effects of great financial planning. I’ve seen growing assets and properly managed debt. I’ve seen this both when life goes well (and life is free of tragedy), and when life goes poorly (and life happens).The difference between those with great and poor finances has little to do with what happened to them in life; it has everything to do with planning for both the good and the bad.
