As a spin-off from my Research Masters, I was commissioned to design and construct an irrigation system for a small Urban Agriculture company with a very tight budget. The resulting semi-autonomous irrigation vehicle and winch used components from a kite buggy, bicycle and a 12V Drill. It reduced water use by over a 65%, significantly reduced labour costs and minimised soil disruption. Designed to be easily replicable, the system is now used as an example of effective low-energy technology to Engineering students at the University of Bristol.
