MICHAEL DOERING is Head of the Ecohydrology Research Group and Professor at the Institute of Natural Resource Sciences, Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland. His research is centered on the assessment, evaluation and prediction of the consequences of anthropogenic influences and restoration efforts on rivers and floodplains (qualitatively and quantitatively) at the landscape scale. The work bridges science and application by utilizing sound scientific approaches and stakeholder involvement in order to develop applied practices in management and monitoring. In addition, it intends to enhance our understanding regarding the linkage of function and structure in fluvial ecosystems. He has long term expertise in investigating, modelling and simulating structural and functional parameters in relation to disturbance and the usage of ecosystem services in particular hydropower and restoration. This research is implemented and applied in several projects with e.g. the Swiss National Science Foundation, Federal Office for the Environment or Cantonal Agencies together with national and international partners. Based on this work a Spin-off company from ETH for ecohydrological applications and consulting evolved in 2013.
