Hi, my name is Michael McLoughlin, I am a sophomore at The University of Massachusetts Amherst studying Managerial Economics. I started my work life as a lifeguard at a swimming pool. This experience taught me the basis of working hard. At this job, I always had to make sure everyone was staying safe because pools can be very dangerous if you are not safe. At my high school, we had an opportunity to go out and find an internship in a field we thought was interesting so I went out and found a finance internship because that is what I am interested in. At this internship, I did daily tasks like sorting through emails and I did some bigger projects like researching companies. This internship turned out to be much better than I expected going into it. I met a lot of brilliant people with great ideas. One of them introduced me to Investment Banking, he said that he was late to the game but he shared what some of his colleagues did that helped. I became more and more interested in investment banking after this interaction, I am interested in working hard toward a deal. Furthermore, I want to have financial security because I have seen people who do not have security over their finances and they seem stressed about how they are going to pay bills which leads them to have their entire focus on trying to pay for their bills.
