My progression to the role of a fully qualified clinical psychotherapist has been linearly developed with the Limerick Institute of Technology, developing the skills and tools to advance within a highly engaging and often challenging branch of work. I began with LIT on a work placement for my postgraduate diploma, before receiving an internship, working to become a core member of the counselling team, and finally being offered a fixed-term position as clinical psychotherapist. This role has provided me with an outlet that has tested and enhanced my psychotherapy abilities and competency in many ways, formulating my personable professional style and allowing me to adeptly facilitate the psychological development and care of all my clients to instil and safeguard long-term benefits. I work in the strictest adherence to all protocols, procedures and laws, whilst often pairing with other medical professionals and services to ensure my clients get the support they deserve.Furthermore, in my work with the Institute, I head the counselling service in two of their other college campuses – LIT Thurles and Clonmel – which are located in Co. Tipperary. Here, I have two interns working under me. I assess all students who wish to avail of therapy and then decide who is best suited to work with and support that student.

Co-facilitating the South Tipperary MEND group programme, I complete one-to-one and group work sessions, working in a supportive, respectful and challenging way with men to hold them accountable for their behaviour towards others, developing strategies for meaningful change, and applying a range of psycho-educational tools.This practice has allowed me to experience psychotherapy work with a range of people from diverse backgrounds and hone my ability to motivate real change in challenging scenarios.
