While catching up on late orders and a backlog of receiving issues, I was able to also clean up purchasing system settings and signals, and streamlined purchasing processes in order to cut my time needed to manage the ordering, receiving, and paying for shop supplies in half. By calculating economic order quantities I was able to free up storage space, minimize holding costs and also reduce ordering costs by 50%. This freed up time for me to build relationships with key suppliers and to pursue more process improvement projects such as vendor managed inventory, multi-user purchasing authorization, and shop floor vending machines.
