I have 3 direct reports in Gothenburg as well as “functional” responsibility for 13 people spread throughout Asia, South Africa, Turkey, Russia and India. My main tasks have been to improve our inventory planning, demand planning and the order process within the region; basically adding the idea of working with supply chain/logistics to a sales organization. Since taking over this roll our inventory levels have dropped by over 50% while still being able to provide an acceptable service level to our customers. Additionally, we have also seen a 10% increase in forecast accuracy within the region since I began. I continue to work with changing the “mindset” within the region to gain more focus on logistics and supply chain questions.

In this role, I was responsible for a group of 7 supply chain planners, who were in charge of service level optimization, planning and managing Penta’s inventory and flow of finished goods on a global scale, logistics development towards factories and suppliers of key components, as well as to insure sustainable delivery precision at 95%. Additionally, I managed a DCN Coordinator who was responsible for facilitating and monitoring the DCN work-flow between Product management, Supply Chain Planners, Plants, Price Management and Sales. My final employee was a Business Analyst, who helped our department with reporting and business analysis tools. I was responsible for overseeing the demand side of the Sales and Operations Process (S&OP) within Volvo Penta. I worked extensively, not only with the sales organization in trying to harmonize our sales forecasts so that they could provide an accurate picture of what needed to be supplied to the markets at a given time, but even with the supply organization so that customers experienced a high service level. The key KPI that I worked with was forecast accuracy, which increased from approximately 50% at a global level to over 90% during my first year. An additional duty that I had within the position was tracking the Volvo Penta order book and providing reports to executive management on a weekly basis regarding trends and deviations. I was also responsible for business development of Volvo Penta’s demand schedule application.

As a material supply planner, I worked with operational purchasing and planning of the company’s electronics components inventory. I had sole responsibility for inventory planning, phase in/phase out, and master data maintenance of electronic components. KPI’s that I followed were delivery precision, inventory levels and item availability.

As a consultant, I was responsible for quite a few different areas, for example updating and maintenance of master date for sales articles at Penta’s various distribution centers. Additionally, I worked with phase in/phase out of new and old sales items as well as meeting important KPI’s such as service level and delivery precision towards internal and external customers, optimizing service level for orders and order stock, optimizing the logistics flows to customers/distribution centers for key items, as well as inventory levels at Penta’s various warehouses.

As a consultant, I worked both as an inventory manager and logistics coordinator. As logistics coordinator I was responsible for seeing that the entire order process from order placement to invoicing developed and functioned in a way which both saved money for Penta in form of lower inventory costs while at the same time providing customers with less expensive transport solutions. It was important to work with the “whole” picture in mind so that orders coming out of production could be consolidated within 1 to 2 days and be transported to the end customer. I was also responsible for inventory management of Penta’s local inventories in South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Peru, Turkey, and Russia. Here, I worked with the market units with the aim of reducing tied up capital within the company while trying to make the flow of products to the end customer more effective. I began working with inventory management in November 2008 and by the end of December 2008 I had helped to bring the inventory levels down by over 70 MSEK. Due to the work that I did developing the processes the Region has seen further decreases in tied up capital and by the end of 2009 the inventories had gone down by an additional 30 MSEK.
