In January of 2010 I replaced Craig Massei as the head writer and editor at San Francisco Illustrated, a monthly magazine dedicated solely to covering the 49ers. It averages about 20 pages per issue and I write almost all the stories on it, including game recaps, player features, team and position quarterly reports, draft and free agent previews and reviews and editorials.

In the summer of 2009 I applied for and won the 49ers beat reporter position in CBSSports.com’s “Rapid Reports” experiment, where they basically held a contest, in partnership with BleacherReport.com, for up-and-coming journalists looking for a break could get their feet in the door. I beat out several hundred applicants and have been on the Niners beat since then. My responsibilities consist of filing between 10 and 35 50-word posts a day, as events warrant. The posts consist of team news, transactions, opinions, quotes from the players and coaches and game updates during the home games. When it started out it was a seven month a year job, but the program has been successful enough to expand it to a full-year position. I want to stress that in this job I was at the 49ers’ Santa Clara complex every day and was close to the coaches and players, interviewing them daily after practices and games. I was also at all the home games.
