CurrentCCC is an award-winning early-stage clean-technology venture company based at Cambridge University in the UK. Since 2009 we have been working internationally with the best scientific brains in the materials, processes and engineering of mineral carbonation. We are one of the World’s leading players in this field and have strategic R&D and IP partnerships with the Universities of Cambridge & Sheffield. CCC is developing a breakthrough technology solution to Industrial CO2 Capture & Storage/Utilisation, based upon IP-protected advanced CO2 mineralisation technology. CCC’s technology has the potential to strip CO2 from industrial flue gases for less than the current carbon price, with the potential to offset this cost or even make a profit from sale of semi-precious metals and other mineral by-products from the processCCC’s technology solution operates on exactly the same principle as conventional flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) and Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS) where magnesium hydroxide is used to strip the acid flue-gases. It provides a low-cost, stand-alone and industry-compatible solution for individual companies looking to reduce their GHG & pollutant emissions by direct removal of CO2 (and, potentially, SOx, NOx & PMs) from exhaust gases. CCC’s technology is highly scalable and has potential to address CO2, Sox, NOx and PMs emissions from small individual CO2 sources & systems through to large power stations, and can remove CO2 directly from air, flue-gas and pure captured CO2. No pipeline or storage infrastructure is required as CO2 is sequestered permanently in the form of carbonate – either a solid mineral product that can be sold or stored, or a bicarbonate solution that is environmentally beneficial to dispose at sea. With the capture of NOx it may be possible to create Magnesium Nitrate, a valuable fertiliser. Founded by Michael Priestnall, winners of Shell Springboard in 2011.
