Developed an initial GIS system that summarizes past research, nearby protected species habitat, and Port facilities information to work towards a common operating framework for Port workgroups. Major tasks included aggregating, summarizing, and displaying internal and publicly available environmental and facilities data within the new GIS, including modeling bathymetry and topography. I gathered and translated data from GIS, CAD, tabular, technical reports, and relational databases.Assisted with the development of permit application materials for a repair and maintenance pile-driving program that will ease Port per-project permitting effort, increase permit-condition consistency, and maintain compliance with federal permitting requirements. The application explains how the Port will complete in-water construction within the estuarine environment of Puget Sound, monitor for marine mammals and ESA-listed species, and mitigate negative environmental impacts. I researched underwater noise propagation models, pile-driving impacts on ESA-listed species, and compiled past project information and monitoring reports.

Principal Investigator: Kevin Barnett, Department of Economics, University of Montana, Missoula, MTProvided GIS mapping support and developed customized python applications to perform address matching and spatial analysis examining the effect on home sale price following dam removal in the Sandy River, OR basin.

Designed and ran an independent undergraduate research project through a scholarship awarded by the Davidson Honors College and under the guidance of Prof. David Shively. My research compared two proposed streamside setback policy proposals to field surveys of the riparian area resource of rivers throughout Missoula and Ravalli counties. I was selected to present the results of the study and the developed GIS methodology at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research in April 2010.

Assisted Surface Water Management staff with ambient monitoring and aquatic invasive plant species programs, in both lakes and streams (separate teams), throughout Snohomish County, Washington. As a full-time paid intern for two summers, my responsibilities included collecting stream and lake water quality profiles using Hach Hydrolab equipment and water sample collection. Additional responsibilities included survey diver support, data entry, GIS site selection for field crews. I was also part of a team monitoring outfalls for the Washington Department of Ecology’s Phase II NPDES permit granted to Snohomish County, and conducted benthic macroinvertebrate sampling using a Surber sampler as another tool to assess stream health. I employed my computer experience and independent study to help troubleshoot the County’s database of NPDES monitoring sites and helped design and write the data verification applications for that database.

Worked in this strong team environment to recommend and sell appropriate computer solutions to Apple retail customers that met their budget expectations and satisfied application requirements. Volunteered extra hours to be a counselor for “Apple Camp,” a kid’s day camp that taught children from the ages of eight to thirteen how to produce movies, music, podcasts, and websites using Apple’s iLife suite of applications.
