Michael Fish,PresidentPacific Surgical Holdings Ltd.In 1993, Michael Fish bought into a small Vancouver surgical-supply business and, many acquisitions later, his Pacific Surgical Holdings group of companies are major suppliers to hospitals across Canada.Michael started his career in the medical field selling neurosurgical instruments and equipment for a division of Johnson & Johnson. When a job promotion offer meant moving from Vancouver to Ontario, he turned the offer down. Shortly afterwards Michael was approached by a small surgical instrument competitor, Keir Surgical, to help grow the company. Over the next 10 years he not only grew the company but bought more and more of the business until assuming full ownership when the owner retired in 2003.His Pacific Surgical Holdings Ltd. now includes 6 companies: Keir Surgical; Nightingale Medical Supplies which operates 7 BC retail stores selling ostomy supplies; Galen Medical Ltd which sells neurosurgical equipment and spinal implants; Mobile Instrument Services & Repair, which changed the face of instrument repair when it launched its first mobile service van in 1982; ANDA Medical Equipment which provides new and refurbished medical equipment globally; and Scalpel Innovation, a manufacturing company based in Vancouver.Michael’s companies support volunteering by employees, matches employees’ charitable donations, sponsors the Vancouver Symphony (Michael sits on the board of directors) and donates supplies to charitable organizations for surgical procedures in impoverished populations. Particularly notable is Project HANDS, a charity that provides much needed surgical relief through clinics in Bolivia.
