For more than the last ten years I have been a Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Volunteer and have been actively involved with the local branch, and at many festivals. Within the local branch I have held several positions including Cider and Perry Officer (committee post), Festival Cider Bar Manager, Festival Technical Team Member and a Brewery Liaison Officer (BLO). As a Festival Bar Manager I have experience of and had responsibility for the organising and setting up of, and then the running of festival bars. I also have had plenty of experience working behind very busy festival bars, supporting and training other volunteers to do so. As part of the Technical Team I have problem solving abilities with beer and cider extraction and storage systems. As a bar manager I have resolved staffing issues and resolved customer service issues. From my other occupations (sailor, soldier, nurse and teacher) I have developed diverse verbal communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure, while working very long hours. I am currently studying at Gateshead College undertaking a hospitality course in partnership with INTU. On this course I am covering topics such as customer service in hospitality, introduction to catering and hospitality, maintaining a hygienic environment, health and safety, equality and diversity in order to help me be ready for a job in the hospitality industry.
