I came on board at Juno Engineering Ltd as a debt collector and a support to the GM and the role grew from there. The business was a small welding shop with four full time staff cramped into rented premises. Over the next six months we retrieved 75% of outstanding accounts and the rest we arranged on the tick to our delight. We went straight in from this and followed up on a piece of land in the new Industrial subdivision, drew up plans and built a fabulous new facility as seen at www.junonz.com . By 2001 we had grown to more than 12 on the shop floor (15 at one stage). I went from working five days a week to four days a week as throughout these years I was bi-vocational.JUNO grew its client base and most importantly we assisted our clients in their growth. The rest is history…..great years! Learnt heaps! I left there employment April 2004.

In 1988, two significant entities set up a trust in Wellington to provide help and support to people that were falling through the cracks in terms of social services and associated organisations. I was employed by this trust to head up a program that would, network existing organisations and support services, uncover and identify the unmet needs and provide creative, sustainable initiatives. A new organization was formed as Not for Profit entity called ‘Helping Hands in Wellington’. We actively engaged in working with NZCCSS and its members, Wellington City Council its social services council members. We created pre-employment training for the unemployed, job creation and various pilot schemes.Businesses created were;• City wide recycling (in conjunction with WCC)• East Side Autos (mechanical repair shop)• Avon Car Rental’s (North island)• Airport Undercar Storage & Valet seviceWCC swaped the old Woolworths warehouse on Lyall bay with Aiport land to created a sewage treatment centre. When the aiport gained ownership the entities and the trusts work was disbanded around August 1993.

My temp agency assigned me to work at Kirks while waiting for over seas appointment on oil rig. I realy enjoyed the place - good training, worked in top team - got to help prepare race car for 85' Benson & Hedges 500. Built my own performance car - Worked with Tony Marsh who helped me blueprint nissan L18. Turbo'd it with L16 SSS head, ported with 240z inlet valves, Fitted 45mm twin sidedraft dorleto (blowthrough) with an early 83' HKS turbo, forged pistons from Chch, 86mm bore and cc'd with 7:1 comp, Created 10, 15, 18, & 22 psi settings for various driving conditions by changing fuel,comp, carb jets and s/plugs to suit. Would sit on 7.5rpm all day.....nothing could touch it. Water injection was reqiured above 15lbs. Biggest two problems - brakes and broken drive/half shaft universal crosses.

This was a small country garage with BP petrol pumps and small shop. We did all major repairs for automotive and farm machinery including breakdown service etc. Waitoki Motors was a daughter business to Progressive Maintenance Ltd and was in the midst of a changing district moving from large farms to many small life style blocks and most folk working in Auckland. I was asked to take up this position at 22yrs and still in my last year of Auto Diesel apprentiship (HE) which I completed in 83'.
