Michael Forston, Phd Email and Phone Number
My current basic science research investigates long projection (propriospinal) interneurons (LPNs), as well as their inputs, after spinal cord injury to better understand locomotor circuitry and recovery. My previous research explored oligodendrocyte biology; specifically, the proteostasis network during development, and RNA translation in adult in response to spinal cord injury. My continued research interests are centered around oligodendrocyte biology and myelination; both its fundamental principles and its impact on myelin-associated pathologies such as spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis. By understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in myelin formation (development and maintenance in adulthood), degeneration, and regeneration, I aim to develop novel therapies that promote oligodendrocyte survival and white matter health.
