my work at Shepheard Epstein Hunter has provided me with extensive experience especially in the fields of design, building construction, project administration, communication with clients and building end users, and construction detailing. The projects below are a few of my varied experience.Percy Gee, Leicester (2009-2011): a £18.50m traditional contract new build & refurbishment of an existing student union building to provide a new venue for over 1000 students with new restaurants & bars in the existing building. The concept here was to create a new main central space which would improve readably/accessibility of the whole building. I designed and detailed, the glulam partially glazed barrel vaulted roof, the main curtain wall glazed elevation to the major central space and all the external works including dealing with multiple levels. We achieved BREEAM excellent, used rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation for the many of the spaces and bio mass boiler amongst other features.Freedom Quay, Hull: (2006-2009) I was project architect for this D&B £4.8m 51 flat private residential block / mixed use scheme on a key redevelopment site facing Hull marina and the Humber estuary. I redesigned the original scheme, to increase flat numbers but using a similar building envelope and resubmitted it to the local Planning Authority. We were novated to Houltons the D&B contractor to provide full construction information. Construction started with the 2 storey smaller end block using innovative prefabricated insulated structural SIPs timber panels built on top of the existing carpark entrance building. The main block had a 4-5 storeys steel frame structure again with SIPs wall infill panels, with two storey’s of rooftop penthouse to complete the building. The mainly masonry building has a curved corner feature of ceramics tiles, and the top floor penthouses where clad in timber & copper. The ground floor had car & cycle parking and a corner retail unit and refuses stores.
