Current1. Promote understanding of the identity of the region both within and externally including the identification of core values and behavioral norms.2. Assist the region board with their fiduciary, strategic, and generative activities.3. Articulate the future vision of the region. The vision of the region (which should be adopted by the board or delegates) may also take many forms or have many levels, including:a. Vision and Mission statementsb. Strategic planningc. Identifying both “technical” and “adaptive” changes.4. Implement the vision by working in concert with the staff, board, and volunteers. Most regional visions will include: a. Internal component: strengthening the local congregations and pastors to meet the needs of their communitiesb. External component: promoting shared ministries in order to meet needs beyond the reach of any single congregation or pastor.c. Funding the ministries and mission of the region.5. Develop the leadership capacity of the region through:a. Staff development and team formation.b. Volunteer recruitment and training. c. Performance appraisals based upon their contributions to the vision.d. Building relationships with potential donors.6. Oversee the daily activities of the staff and volunteers and recommend the hiring and dismissal of staff as appropriate and in conjunction with board policy.7. Ensure that pastoral care and placement assistance for clergy are provided.8. Assist with conflict resolution within and among congregations that threaten to limit the development and implementation of the vision.9. Contain the fallout from crises within and among congregations, drawing upon legal advice as needed and strictly adhering to policies such as clergy ethics and misconduct policies.10. Celebrate achievements of the region's congregations.11. Read, scan, and learn about new opportunities for the region.12. Provide a linkage between the region and other denominational and ecumenical entities.
