Worked independently and as part of a group in forwarding medicinal chemistry programs in ophthalmology, oncology, osteoporosis, and neuropathic pain (kinase target) towards a drug. Received Lexicon Award of Merit for synthesis which identified the active and selective group used in LX-7101, an ophthalmology target, that progressed to clinical studies. Responsible for maintenance, support, and training of the microwave instrument. Optimized original synthetic routes, conditions and purification of promising targets to >50g scale to produce adequate amounts and purity for toxicology and other studies needed for compound nomination. Received Lexicon Above and Beyond award for helping to establish analytical department.(2003) Served as a member of analytical support team, being a liaison between the analytical and medicinal chemistry divisions. Tasks included providing real-time guidance (e.g. compound specific method development) for other chemists' compounds, training, system maintenance, and troubleshooting.
