CurrentThe Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, chartered by Pope John Paul II in 1984, is the youngest of the six principal Pontifical Universities in Rome. Conceived in the heart of St. Josemaria many years before, it was born during the papacy of John Paul II to serve the universal Church in providing priests and pastors for the new evangelization. An internationally prestigious center of university level studies in the ecclesiastical sciences, Santa Croce was entrusted to the Prelature of Opus Dei with the aim of offering the universal Church an effective instrument for formation and research. It is open to priests, seminarians, religious and lay people, both men and women, from dioceses all over the world.The Pontifical University of the Holy Cross Foundation exists to provide the necessary resources required for the university to fulfill its mission
