As our company had moved to a subscription based model, we were no longer limited to working within one specific application. Over the next few years I would work on developing, and assist on deploying nearly all of the applications provided by SCS.I was assigned the responsibility of interviewing and hiring new talent - software developers and technical specialists. During this time we brought on four new programmers to help facilitate our growth.With the new talent being brought on I became more involved in managing projects and development teams. This included corporate wide deployment of our ad tracking application and of our classified pagination system. Remaining with the ad tracking development and installation team at SCS, I began going on-site with a installer to assist in system setup. Setup would often including preparing Windows and Mac workstations for use with our software, configuring email, printers and faxing on-site. I would also assist the installer with technical issues during the on-boarding process.These trips gave me a very clear picture and understanding of how a newspaper worked from head to tail. It also aided in my understanding of system development given exposure to the true end users of the system.During the later end of this period I began working with a development team to truly modernize our ad tracking application migrating it from a X-Windows legacy application to a web-based application. I came on with SCS as a Junior Application Developer during a significant boom in the newspaper industry. I started work developing and improving reports for our accounting system.Shortly thereafter I was reassigned to work on the company's ad tracking software, where I...Assisted in the migration of our primary platform of deployment from SCO UNIX to Redhat Linux;Developed and deployed data replication and redundancy tools to keep our application server pairs in sync in a two shared nothing server environment;Major involvement in modernizing and adding functionality to our ad tracking application, including but not limited to email, faxing and print interfacing.
