Michael is the Deputy Chief Executive Partner of Norton Rose Fulbright Australia and Head of its National Government Practice. He sits on the Management Committee of the firm in Australia and on its Global Executive Committee.Michael was formerly Managing Partner of Henry Davis York (which combined with Norton Rose Fulbright Australia in 2017) and was with that firm for over 24 years. During that time he held many other leadership roles, including as a member of the Board, Leader of the firm's Commercial Dispute Resolution Practice and Head of the firm's Government Sector Practice. Michael has acted for public and private sector clients in the government, financial services, and corporate sectors. In the public sector, Michael has been a trusted adviser to government clients for more than 20 years. He has specialist knowledge of road transport law and regulation as well as governance and probity and has advised Premiers, Ministers and senior executive leaders. He specialised in managing and resolving complex and sensitive litigation matters and in advising and appearing for government clients in statutory inquiries including several significant ICAC inquiries, a judicial inquiry, special commissions and royal commissions and a large number of coronial inquests. His Government clients included Roads & Maritime Services, RailCorp, NSW Police, NSW Health, NSW Ports Corporation and Transport for NSW.In the private sector, Michael advised clients on their dealings with corporate regulators such as ASIC and the ACCC, and in substantial contractual disputes and trade practices matters.Michael is listed by "The Best Lawyers in Australia" publication in the areas of Government Practice, Litigation and Transportation Law. He is a CEO Ambassador for the Workplace Gender Equality Agency's national pay equity campaign and an Executive Ally for Norton Rose Fulbright’s Pride Group and part of the prideindiversity Executive LGBTI Allies Forum. Michael is the Chair of the national Board of Streetwork, a Sydney based charity which provides support for "at risk" young people and he is a member of the Board of CareerSeekers, a not for profit organisation which facilitates vocational opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers.Michael is also a director of Jaramer Legal, a majority Indigenous owned and controlled national commercial law firm formed in a joint venture between Norton Rose Fulbright and Mailman Law.Michael is a regular volunteer for OzHarvest and has a keen interest in food sustainability.
