How does a life of music obsession translate into a UX career? Let me answer this by sharing the endless inspiration and influence I’ve gained through artistic endeavors. To offer some background:After graduating from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, I spent the following four years working for the renown Madison, WI record store Strictly Discs. I left these experiences with a trained, encyclopedic mind for all things music. During my time as Project Manager for Strictly Discs, I largely oversaw the move-in to a new facility that offered a great challenge. Employing creative problem solving, I arranged the mass of product in a method optimized for easiest access and flexibility towards pop-up sale party events. I implemented a database of thousands of unique items, each connected to instore and online stock levels. I helped make online and in-store users achieve the most streamlined, intuitive experience. From these steps, I aided the store to its most profitable day on record at the time.At the event company Staging Techniques, I adapted my skill of product research to a range of intricate projection, video, and audio equipment. There I worked on productions for Microsoft, Georgia Pacific, Equifax, and Redfin in ballrooms, large auditoriums, conference rooms, and virtual/remote events. It is my great joy to pivot my creative problem solving and research skills into my UX efforts.I think of the design process like an ensemble composition. First, I learn my audience. Then, I database everything that works, and I add a new flare that speaks to everyone’s strengths. Gelling with my team is essential. I thread the line between intuitiveness and innovation. For me, compiling UX research is akin to finding common themes in seemingly disparate styles of music. Faced with swaths of data, I’m thrilled to parse out clues towards the riddle or a project. It’s like realizing the secret ingredient of an 80s new wave song is the same ingredient that energizes a Stravinsky ballet. These “eureka” moments lay the foundation for user empathy. I'm eager to offer my skillset to the next challenge. My specialties include:- UX Design- UX Research- Interaction Design- Project Management- Information Architecture- User Interface Design- UX Writing- Content Management Systems- Persona Creation- User Interface Prototyping- Card Sorting- Affinity Mapping- Journey Mapping- User Flows
Listed skills include Paper Prototyping, Ux Research, User Experience, Event Planning, and 19 others.
