About Michael Guarraia
I'm currently serving as an instructional developer on an amazing team of engineering educators at Project Lead The Way. As some background, I started my career as an engineer for a major defense contractor. After six years, I transitioned to teaching to usher in a new wave of engineers. I worked in public schools for nine years, and an additional four years at an elite private, progressive school. I've taught all levels, from elementary to high school. I believe in problem-based / project-based pedagogy, where kids are doing. I also strongly believe in tailored, differentiated instruction and assessment, where students are given the tools necessary to self-evaluate and determine appropriate levels of challenge for themselves. It takes time and training, but results in confident, scientifically literate students who will be the change agents of the future.
