Dr. Michael Hickey is a Professor of Physics in the Department of Physical Sciences and was the former Director of the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research (CSAR) within the College of Arts & Sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Geophysical Research--Space Physics, one of several prestigious peer-review journals published by the American Geophysical Union. He served as the Dean of Research & Graduate Studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University from 2012 - 2018. He was responsible for overseeing faculty research at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach, Prescott and World Wide campuses and oversaw the Ph.D. programs at the Daytona Beach campus. He is also a Professor in the Department of Physical Sciences. Previously at Embry-Riddle he was interim chair of the Department of Physical Sciences (2011-2012), Associate Dean for Research in the College of Arts & Sciences (2005-2012), and Associate VP for Research and Graduate Studies (May 2012-Dec 2012). Prior to Embry-Riddle his work experience includes being a contractor at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, a research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and a physics professor at Clemson University.Dr. Hickey has published more than 78 peer-reviewed papers and presented approximately 100 papers on the numerical simulation of atmospheric waves in planetary atmospheres. He has received approximately $4 million in NASA and NSF research funding and served on numerous NASA and NSF panel reviews. In 1991 and 2013 he received NASA's Group Achievement Award, and in 2005 he received Embry-Riddle’s Researcher of the Year award. He has served on the Space Florida Board of Directors and is a former Associate Director of the Florida Space Grant Consortium. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, a member of the American Geophysical Union and a member of the American Meteorological Society.Dr. Hickey received his Bachelor of Science (Honors) in 1979 and Ph.D. in physics in 1986 from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia.
