I received my PhD from the University of Hong Kong in 1990 and did my postdoctoral research with Nobel laureate (the late) Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson at the Johnson Matthey Laboratory of Imperial College London, UK. Before joining the City University of Hong Kong in 1994, I have worked as a forensic scientist in the Government Laboratory of Hong Kong and as a water scientist in the Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong. As a Professor in Chemistry, I taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry and Forensic Science. As an Associate Dean of the College of Science, I looked after matters related to undergraduate education in my college. These include: conducting regular performance reviews on existing Bachelor of Science degree programmes, developing and validating new programmes, liaising with student bodies, organizing student academic activities, conducting public engagements on STEM education, and promoting undergraduate programmes to local and overseas high schools. My research interest lies in the development of molecular, nano- and micro-scale materials for biomedical and environmental/food safety applications. -
