The Outdoor Furniture Specialists, with 43 stores nationally, are Australia's leading national retailer in outdoor furniture, outdoor living and accessories.

In conjunction with private equity partners our investment and leadership of Home Appliances saw the business grow from $17m to $85m over a period of 5 years and enterprise value increase from $8M to $40M. Approximately 50% of the growth was organic and 50% through acquisition. I was an Executive Director on an Independent Board of Directors. As Executive Director I was involved across all elements of the business. Key responsibilities covered operations, product and account management. Managed and implemented change in a business that was experiencing significant organic growth at the same time as being impacted by multiple acquisitions over a short time frame. Transformed operations while reducing the overall percentage of operational costs to the business. This was achieved through the implementation of technology, establishment of new procedures and the redesign of both product and the supply chain. The targeting and integration of acquisitions. The ability to resolve complex issues arising from different cultures, systems and distribution channels was a key achievement during this period. The success of the integrations stemmed from developing a clear strategy, communicating it and bringing all team members along with the implementation.  Development of new key accounts that saw major growth in non-traditional appliance retailers; Development of new distribution channels in trade and commercial markets; Expanding our supply base In China and Europe. This facilitated growth in our product range, expansion into new product categories and increased margins through more effective sourcing. Implemented a branding strategy that saw the business successfully compete in the upper segments of the kitchen retail market.

Developed an idea into a strategy and a business that was able to attract seed capital and subsequent private equity investment. The company became the leading supplier of kitchen appliances into the kitchen cabinet market.  Developed a new brand, established its brand identity and sourced a product to match the market aspirations of the brand.  Developed a distribution channel that was new to the Australian market and provided that channel with a package that incorporated all product, marketing, point of sale, selling systems and training programmes.  Reported through to an independent Board and positioned the company for successful sale in 2010.

Australia's largest manufacturer, retailer and installer of kitchen cabinetry

Stone Systems was an importing, wholesaling and marketing business that was established to capitalise on new product and channel developments in the kitchen and bathroom industries.  Became the leading supplier of sinks to BBC Hardwarehouse displacing recognized brands such as Clark and Radiant. Sourced suppliers and developed independent quality control facilities within China. Introduced a new sanitary brand “Cotto” to the Australian market. Was actively involved in obtaining all approvals and ensuring all products met Australian standards.

The Nobby Group was a diverse enterprise with sales peaking at $39M and with operations in Australia, New Zealand , China and Singapore. Transformed a business focused on traditional furniture manufacturing into a kitchen manufacturer. Established a kitchen retail brand (Nobby) with 26 outlets in four states of which 12 were franchisees. Established an export market in Singapore that saw us achieve sales of $7M over 4 years. Established a joint venture in Zhongshan China to manufacture and kitchen, vanity and furniture componentry. Established an assembly facility and franchise chain in New Zealand under the Unbuilt brand. Positioned the business for sale to Private Equity.
