Member of UK Submarine Escape Rescue Advisory Team (SMERAT). As a Submarine Escape and Rescue instructor im responsible for training submariners and civilian and military contractors on procedures and techniques for safely evacuating a submarine in emergency situations and facilitating rescue operations. Key teaching points: Maintaining atmosphere in a DISSUB, monitoring and effects of radiation, survival in a DISSUB, communication, effects of pressure on the human body, escape tower operations and sea survival.Qualified as a defence training practitioner with a level 3 in education and training.My role includes:1. Training: How to use escape and rescue equipment, such as escape suits and life-saving appliances, atmosphere monitoring and radiation protection. Delivery of training to conduct simulated abandonment, escape or rescue.2. Safety Protocols: I ensure that those proceeding to sea understand safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the importance of maintaining composure during high-stress situations.3. Rescue Coordination: As a member of UK SMERAT involved in coordinating rescue missions, working closely with naval or maritime authorities to plan and execute submarine rescue operations. On call 24/7 ready to deploy at 6 hours notice worldwide.4. Simulation: Oversee the use of simulators to replicate submarine escape scenarios, allowing trainees to practice their skills in a controlled environment.5. Maintenance: As a engineer responsible for inspecting and maintaining escape equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition ready to be utilised for training or ready to be deployed worldwide at 6 hours notice.6. Assessment: Evaluate trainees' performance, providing feedback, to improve escape, rescue and abandonment skills.7. Documentation: Maintaining records of training sessions, assessments, and emergency drills is a key part of my duties.
