Presently serve in the role of Engineering Manager for Science and Engineering Services (SES), whose capabilities include aircraft modification, manufacturing, research and development (R&D), program management, engineering, logistics, high volume procurement, and training (ISO 9001, AS9100, and AS9110 registered / FAA Part 145 certified).• Responsible for the mechanical design and structural analysis group including: mentoring of team in best practices, expansion of cross-discipline skills, and professionalism. Capabilities include mechanical design and integration, GD&T practices (ASME Y14.5), and structural analysis for components and systems using FEA (ANSYS) as well as classic hand calculation methodologies (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc.).• Responsibilities also include: management of multiple successful engineering development programs from SRR thru CDR, manufacturing, prototype installation and testing, to final validation and airworthiness certification. • Other responsibilities: working of production issues and process improvements with manufacturing, development of engineering labor estimates (all disciplines) and schedule layout for proposals, and program engineering labor resource tracking.

Served as the Associate Center Director and Director of Operations for the Center for Biophysical Sciences and Engineering (CBSE), an interdisciplinary center providing research, spaceflight qualified payload and specialty instrument development, and other fee-for-service support to industry and government in the biophysical sciences and microgravity research spaceflight community (Quality Management System ISO 9000 and AS 9100 registered).• Responsible for overall operations and financial management of the organization with responsibilities including: forecasting, budget planning and cost management, overhead analysis and allocation, ERP systems and approval workflow, procurement, IT, facilities management and capital improvements (including for machine shop, research labs, and assembly/test areas), HR, contract administration, and customer reporting.• Other responsibilities managed under this position include: business development, proposal costing, and identification of intellectual property as well as any related licensing activities.

Responsible for Engineering Division operations and technical support facilities (including machining, electrical / electronic fabrication, assembly labs, 100K class clean room, and test facilities), as well as strategic planning, division financial planning & budget inputs, business development, and customer satisfaction.• Programs managed included as customers NASA Codes UG, Code UX, Code OZ, and SPD as well as other domestic and international commercial customers. The results have included the development of 16 different experiment payload systems designed, fabricated, tested, and qualified for space flight. These systems were integrated by the Center and flown 54 times without failure on 45 different Shuttle, SPACEHAB, Space Station, and Mir flights, supporting both domestic and international research.• Developed and maintained a diverse, highly skilled staff for development of precision instruments and space flight qualified research payloads with capabilities that included mech. design, structural analysis, thermodynamics, electrical design, electronic board design, multiple software development disciplines (embedded, GUI, telemetry, data warehousing, real-time and post-flight data processing), systems engineering, testing, quality, mission support (including crew training, launch site, on-orbit, and recovery site), certified technicians, and precision machinists.• Successfully diversified and grew the Division’s external customer base to include:• Development, production, mission support, and post-flight maintenance of the MERLIN thermal carriers and GLACIER cyro-freezer flight units used by NASA JSC.• Mgmt of the flight thermal carriers owned by NASA SPD, including maintenance and upgrades as well as training for PIs and crew.• Selected by JSC to provide equipment development services under an IDIQ contract.• Multiple leases of Center developed / owned flight hardware systems along with technical / mission support to SPACEHAB for JAXA investigators.
