Major Achievements: Masters of Public Administration program (MPA) re-accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs & Administration (NASPAA) 2013. MSW re-accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) 2017- until 2025. The BSSW re-accredited by (CSWE) in 2016 - until 2023. Enrollment has increased substantially across the undergraduate and graduate programs in the College. Initiated new graduate certificates in: Public Policy and state and local government. Renewed $37K annual appropriation from the Tennessee Legislature for the Center on Aging Research and Education Services (CARES). Expanded the vision for CARES to create a more comprehensive and relevant agenda. CPS partnered with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to address transportation policy. CPS received a federal grant from HUD. This allowed us to incorporate fair housing education and research into the Urban Studies program curriculum. Invigorated CPS Advisory Board. Collaborated with the Tennessee Educational Leadership Conference (LEAD) to transition graduates into the MPA program; Developed an MPA track for executives; Partnered with the College of Agriculture to develop a Global Information Systems (GIS) graduate degree; developed a graduate certificate in Public Administration Executive Leadership (Command College) and partnered with TDOC and TBI. Increased online degree offering. In 2016, the Bachelors of Science in Urban Studies program forged a partnerships with the Tennessee Department of Corrections to create the Professional Management Academy. In completion students have the opportunity to enroll in online courses entitled POA towards the BSUS degree. In addition, the Urban Studies program began a similar partnership with the Tennessee Department of Human Resources DOHR. As a result of these initiatives the Urban Studies program has grown in enrollment by over 450 percent in two years.

A 67 year record student enrollment, 15 new degree programs, expanded online, record fundraising, initiated intercollegiate athletic and led to NAIA. Developed a nursing sim lab, new media digital center, campus beautification, construction of Cole Wellness and Fitness Center. Dr. Harris had IU Kokomo ranked by U.S. News & World Report for the first time. Dr. Harris Partial recognition: Kokomo Perspective Person of the Year 2011, finalist for University Economic Development leadership Award, appointed by Governor Daniels to the Indiana Automotive Advisory Council (IAC) and Honorary Commander of Grissom Air Base.

Responsible for all aspects of the academic mission of the University. This includes oversight of the academic budgets, faculty and all academic and curricular matters while also serving as the VP for Student Affairs. Major Accomplishments:Developed and implemented an innovative program to teach Entrepreneurship Across the Curriculum (EAC). Developed a strategic plan and implemented to enhance student success and academic excellence. Retention increased from 85.1% in 2007 to 94.3% in 2010. Development of new programs was a staple of my tenure: Pre-Med minor in Biochemistry, minor and concentration in Computer Systems & Data Security, minor and concentration in Computer Gaming, Bachelors of Business Administration, minor in Entrepreneurship, Chemical Engineering, and an Aerospace Specialty.Introduced a global collaborative focus. We negotiated agreements in China, Germany and Sweden. Developed an international collaboration in alternative energy. The Swedish-Bio gas project. A collaborative project between Swedish business, Swedish government, the Federal government, the state of Michigan and the city of Flint. The King of Sweden attended groundbreaking. We developed a professional partnership with SGMW – an automotive manufacturer in China. I led the negotiations that resulted in a collaborative agreement with China Automotive Technological Research Center (CATRC). Enhancing research and grants was a primary responsibility as Provost. Among grants secured were the $1.651 million from the Kern Family Foundation as the Principal Investigator for the implementation of Entrepreneurship across the Curriculum and Institution. My tenure also facilitated the granting of $500,000 awarded by the Federal government to Kettering University, ECE Department, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grant was for the purpose of creating new courses and two laboratories focused on hybrid electronics, batteries and green power.

My focus was to implement a Learned - Centered paradigm shift. Part of the effort was directed at major space renovation to facilitate the new approach to learning. Emphasis was also put on developing online course and faculty development. This included the successful approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC-NCA) allowing Ferris State University to deliver fully online certificate degrees. Additionally, I focused on efficiencies through analysis of small class size and low-enrolled programs. This work resulted in a 50% decrease in small classes between 2004 and 2007. Moreover, I developed a faculty growth model which colleges were rewarded for increased credit hour production. Much attention was focused on faculty and administrative professional development.I Initiated and led the University’s selection and participation as one of eight universities nationwide in the Political Engagement Project (PEP) with AASCU. We also led strategic effort to enhance articulation agreements with other universities and mainly community colleges. Outside constituencies were of great value and during my tenure we engaged in several projects such as a collaborative effort with Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth and Michigan Works to develop accelerated programming in Allied Health, Business and Technology to be delivered off campus to assist economic recovery in the Greenville, Michigan region. I received a $1M grant from Dow Chemicals toward a new Optometry building. I led several accreditation's including the Schools of Pharmacy and Optometry.
